Geocache Description:

Hermes is the greek messenger god, renowned for his speed.

Kings Road in North Point is a busy thoroughfare with many forms of public transport available, some fast, some not so fast. Hidden underground is the MTR, buses and taxis abound, and then there are the trams.  These have to be the cheapest form of public transport in Hong Kong – you can travel from Kennedy Town to Shau Kei Wan for just $2.30 -  but they are definitely not the quickest, the longest journey will take you 80 minutes by tram.

Construction of the tramway began in 1903, initially from Kennedy Town to Causeway Bay, but later extended to Shau Kei Wan.  Tramcars were single deck, and were designed for either first class passengers or third class passengers. The first-class compartment was enclosed in the centre with two long benches on both sides, with both the front and back ends open. Seating capacity was 32 passengers. The third-class tramcars were open-sided, with six sets of benches running crossways, back to back, seating 48 passengers. Tram fares for the first and the third class were 10 cents and 5 cents respectively. Due to demand, double deck tramcars were introduced in 1912. The tramcar had an open top design, fitted with garden-type seats. The first class occupied the upper deck and one-third of the lower deck. In 1972 class distinction was abolished and a flat fare introduced.

The total length of the line is 13 km, operating hours are from 5:30 am to 12:30 am, and the fare is a flat rate of $2.30 (adults), $1.20 (children) and $1.10 (senior citizens) for any length of journey.

On average, the headway between each tram departure is approximately 1.5 minutes during peak hours. Originally trams had a maximum speed of 40 km/h, however since early 2008 the maximum speed of some trams was increased, a few of them have a maximum speed of 60 km/h. The maximum capacity of each tramcar is 115 people.

The tracks were originally built along the waterfront, before further land reclamation pushed the coastline northwards, the tracks can be used to identify the historic coastline, and as a reference for directions and locations throughout urban Hong Kong Island.

The cache is along the entrance to the tram stop, under a bridge. It has moved into the end of something . Take care to replace it exactly as found, and do not post any spoilers. As always, be wary of muggles when retrieving/replacing the cache.
