Near here is Chapel Bay Fort, a Grade II listed building, which is part of a series of forts as an inner line of defence for Milford Haven. It is also known as Chapel Bay Battery and construction began in 1890 and was completed in 1891. The battery was the first fortification in the area to be built of mass concrete. It had three 10inch rifled muzzle-loaded guns. The Fort was decommissioned in 1920. In WW2 a mining observation post was built on the site. It is now in private hands and functions as a museum which opened to the public on 3rd April 2015. The opening hours are limited and only in the season ( closes end of October and opens Easter) - Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10AM to 4PM. There is a small admission charge. There is also a small cafe selling sandwiches, drinks and ice-creams. Not forgetting a toilet for humans and a drinking water bowl for geohounds.
If you are planning to attempt the full series in a clockwise direction please note that at the very very highest of tides at certain times of the year the vehicle track/path after the Old Point House Inn can be under water for a while - you could be stranded in the pub for a short time! You can return to West Angle Car park by taking the gravel track down to the main road.
