This cache is only about .2 of a mile from a main road. There is a
dirt road that will get you even closer and is accessible by a car.
Please stay ON the dirt road. I recently visited the cache site and
I'm surprised by how many people are driving right to the cache.
Please stay on dirt road.
I found this place when searching for a benchmark. In the
description for the LP0048
benchmark a Weather Bureau station is mentioned. The weather
station has been missing for some years but there are some remains.
What is amazing is the faint remains of roads and foundations that
dot this small area but are almost invisible from the main
road.
The dirt road is actually the old Union Pacific Railroad grade
through this valley.
This cache is very close to the this benchmark.
You can drive down the dirt road but you'll need to find a place
to turn around. It should be okay in most weather as long as you
don't go down either side of the old railroad grade. The soil off
the grade can become very soft when it's wet.
Take a moment and look east for a great view of Timpanogos and
keep your eyes out for Antelope. Also, just take a moment to walk
around and find the old road edging and sidewalks that are almost
covered.
