Geocache Description:

This cache is the first in a series of international mythological creatures. You are looking for a micro hidden inside another container.

Good luck and run if you hear a Biwa!

At the opposite end of the stereotypical stories of docile Japanese women-heroic good mothers, chaste daughters and hardworking faithful wives, there is the Lore of the Jorogumo. A Jorogumo

Jorōgumo is a type of Yôkai, a creature of Japanese folklore. According to some legends, a Jorogumo is a spider, that can change it's appearance into that of a seductive woman. Jorogumo is written as 絡新婦 literally meaning "binding bride". In one legend of the Edo period, when a spider turns 400 years old, it gains magical powers. The spider will change its appearance into the form of a beautiful woman to entice a man. She begins to play the Biwa, a type of Japanese lute. Having led the man back to her lair, she plays the Biwa to distract him. She binds him in spider silk threads in order to devour him for her next meal.Even when it is in it's human form, the Jorogumo's reflection will show that of a giant spider. It can not be killed by any kind of poison. Jorogumos live solitary lives both as spiders and in human form, often choosing to locate their lairs in popluar areas where humans gather. They are skillful deceivers. This cache is rated a 2.5 due to high muggle activity and fluctuating way points.
