Esta fuente monumental fue el regalo que hizo la Colonia Alemana para el primer aniversario de la Independencia de Chile, el año 1910. Está diseñada en bronce y piedra por el escultor Gustavo Eberlein, de reconocida fama a principios del siglo XX.

La Fuente Alemana está llena de símbolos, representa, entre otras cosas, el desarrollo del continente y el de nuestro país. En la proa se puede divisar la diosa Victoria, como metáfora de un país libre y triunfante. El Dios Mercurio, como timonel, libera al barco de un peñón rocoso que representa a la cordillera de Los Andes. Por los costados, se ubica un minero mestizo que representa el esfuerzo y al lado opuesto una mujer criolla, simbolizando la fortuna y la belleza. En la parte posterior de la fuente, se puede apreciar un cóndor, el ave nacional de Chile, con sus alas desplegadas.

 

This monumental fountain was a gift that made the German Colony for the first anniversary of the Independence of Chile, in 1910. It was designed in bronze and stone by the sculptor Gustav Eberlein, of recognized fame in the early twentieth century.

The Fuente Alemana is full of symbols, represents, among other things , the development of the continent and our country. In the bow you can see the goddess Victoria, as a metaphor of a free and successful country. The God Mercury, as helmsman, the boat released a rocky crag that represents the Andes . On the sides, a mestizo miner who represents the effort and oppositive at him is located a local woman, symbolizing wealth and beauty. On the back of the fountain, you can see a Condor, the national bird of Chile , with its wings spread.
