This cache is located at the Rodeo parking lot in Snowmass. This is the only free parking lot in Snowmass during the ski season.
The parking lot gets its name from the rodeo grounds next door. The Snowmass Rodeo has been a summer institution in Snowmass since 1973. Snowmass was originally founded as a ranching community in the 1880s to feed the silver mining boom in Aspen, and raised horses, cattle, and sheep as well as farmed wheat and hay. And there are still several horse farms in the valley. There were four original ranches; Sinclair, Melton, Stapleton, and Hoaglund.
