Geocache Description:

A camo taped pill bottle at what used to be an old ice rink.

P.P.S.T.O.Y. = Pittsburgh Professional Sports Teams of Yesteryear.

The Pittsburgh Hornets where a minor league hockey team that played in Pittsburgh for two different time frames, 1936-1956 and 1961-1967.  They were a junior team of the Detroit Red Wings. The first stint in Pittsburgh the Hornets played at the Duquesne Gardens. The Gardens were torn down in 1956. The Hornets left Pittsburgh for 5 years but came back when the brand new state of the art Civic Arena was built. They played there from 1961-1967. The next year Pittsburgh was awarded a major league franchise, The Pittsburgh Penguins. Thus exterminating the Hornets.

The Hornets won the Calder Cup in 1952, 55, 67. The Calder Cup is the trophy given to the champions of the A.H.L. (American Hockey League) it is the second oldest Hockey Trophy. Only the Stanley Cup is older. If you do the math the Hornets won their last game they ever played. On April 30th 1967. They scored 26 seconds into overtime to sweep the Rochester Americans in 4 games to win their final Calder Cup.

Two of the better players to put on a Hornet uniform where goalie Roger Crozier and left winger Sid Smith. Both went on to have great N.H.L. careers.
