Geocache Description:

Placing a few un-common colors for some of the color challenges.

Crayola crayons have come in many colors since their introduction in 1903 with 8 colors. By 1998, Binney & Smith’s Crayola crayon product line had reached 120 colors. While a total of 54 colors have been retired, the total number of existing colors is 174.

Thistle was one of 40 colors added to the crayon box in 1949. It was known as "Light Magenta" from 1949–1958.

Thistle is a pale purplish color resembling the thistle plant.

The first recorded use of Thistle as a color name in English was in 1892.

Thistle was named as one of Crayola’s WORST COLORS. Nothing encourages a small kid just learning to talk than a word so unusual to pronounce that will throw them immediately into speech therapy or absolute muteness. Add to the fact that kids would want to color something "thistle" as much as they would "herbaceous" and you have a crayon that was phased out in 2000, 51 years after anyone even knew it was in the box. In 2000, Thistle was removed from the 120-count assortment to make room for indigo.

The color thistle is associated with Scotland because the thistle is the national flower of Scotland and Scotland's highest state decoration is the Order of the Thistle.

While placing caches in Clarke County we encountered many dead end roads and lots of them that are level B roads – this means there is NO gravel on them – they are mud after it rains. If you get stuck, the farmers will not pull you out – you will have to call a tow truck. Please be aware of this and use caution when hunting these caches.
