Geocache Description:

This story takes us to see the Black Widow. The Black Widow is a supernatural being with many different appearances. Although most people associate the Black Widow with a spider, we have evidence based on several testimonies it is really a tall and thin figure, and is usually dressed in a woman's cloak. Appearances of the Black Widow usually occur on remote roads and lonely places. It is also said to appear in dark forests and always with an absent look or as if waiting for something. The being is almost always described as a man with a grim smile, but occasionally as an emotionless women. Its appearance is always black as night and it moves with the wind.

A very interesting account of an encounter with this aberration is happening in the Battle Creek area and this case is narrated to us by a banshee.

That night it was blustery and the wind was howling through the eerie forest. A couple staggered down a beaten path facing such adverse weather conditions after the many drinks they had drank in a nearby bar.

In their euphoric state they walked down the forest path thinking about a possible romantic moment. As they walked they heard noises that mingled with the usual noises of branches and leaves as they swayed in the stormy darkness. The fog and branches acted as ghostly shadows and at one point they were sure they heard a cry of lamenting despair. Such was the fear they felt that shook them to the bone. They decided to run down the dark path as way to quickly escape in case something came their way. Upon reaching the meadow they looked up and saw a gigantic woman covered with a black robe. Suddenly this aberration pounced on him and embraced him until he cried - Ayyyy! Death nearly happened upon him, a memory that will forever live within the depths of her memory forever.

Escaping the grasp of ghostly figure seemed impossible. Even with all his strength and might he was unable to secede the hugging cry.. and only kisses from the being could save him and only then could he rest in peace.

The black widow suddenly loosened its grip and the young victim vomited endless buckets because of the disgust he felt. When he detached he came screaming and clutching his girl and ran toward the house. At the same time he broke the stillness that hitherto lived in the forest.

The next day all of the town folk gathered to talk of nothing else other than what had happened to the couple the eve before. From now on even the most unbelieving think twice before go on long walk in the forest at night for fear of dealing with the dead that haunted the darkness.

A VERY SPECIAL thanks to my geocaching friend A3sound. He was the inspiration for this Wherigo adventure and has granted me permission to use his idea and theme to create a Minnesota version of the original Spanish cartridge. A3sound is a Spanish citizen and resides in Spain. I had the pleasure of meeting him and was taken on a personal tour of his home-caching-area during a visit last spring. I have to say that A3sound is truly a gem to the geocaching world and his caches are the crème de la crème.

NOTE TO ALL WHERIGO ENTHUSIASTS: While I know all Wherigo cartridges are hackable and many are playable online, this is a special note to say that my cartridge is no different. But if that is the route you choose to take, you will truly be missing the enjoyment and the audible and visual essence of this Wherigo cartridge.
