Geocache Description:

This cache is one in a series of 26, The Nottinghamshire A-Z, placed across the county by a team of Nottinghamshire Cachers. The Caches vary in size, type and difficulty, and each location has a different initial letter.

Nottinghamshire is bordered by four counties, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire. This cache is placed close to the Yorkshire border and the Market town of Bawtry which lies on the junctions of The Great North Road (A614), A631 and the A638. The county boundary which is just to the south of Bawtry has a house bearing the title "Number One Yorkshire", it is so close.During the Viking era, Bawtry was developed from a wharf and originally was in the county of Nottinghamshire until boundary changes around the Norman Conquest forced it into the old West Riding. The River Idle is close by and its sources are the Maun and the Meden which join at Markham Moor near Retford, it terminates at the River Trent, Stockwith, close to Misterton. The bridge adjacent carries the A631 to Gainsborough and was constructed in 1810 by Mr Flavel of Wetherby at a cost of £3000. It consits of a large central arch flanked by a similar arch on each side. The road was widened in 1940 by extending the bridge on the south side, it retains its pleasing look because the facade was removed and replaced on the end upon completion. You are looking for a small screw top container with room for a few swaps and the usual trade items.
