The rail and the cache are along the North Country trail. The entire trail streches from North Dakota to New York. You can hike in from the Parking spot on Coon Run Rd. and back out or continue to follow the trail past the old incinerator onto Parellel trail and out to ASP 3. Allegany State Park Permit Number ALL358 (exp. 9/2017).
Thank you for visiting the Bent Rail Cache. The bent rail, which lies on the north side of the trail, was on a rail car that was parked for the weekend. It was securely parked at the top of Coon Run hill. Monday when work resumed, the car was found still on the track at the bottom of the hill. They found rails scattered all over along the rail line down the hill. Arthur Miller says "There was no doubt that someone cut the car loose during the weekend due to grievance of some sort." They set out that day picking up the twisted rails along the track. Robert Miller later said "we just must of forgot to pick it up." The rail has been there since 1907.
