If you want to do something extra (not required) then measure the closest Douglas fir tree to the cache and record the inches. The closest Douglas fir is about 6 inches across, which is about 17 inches circumference. This tree is 10-15 feet NE of the cache. All the other trees around it are hemlocks. If this goes as planned the log with show the growth of the tree over years. Measure the circumference at shoulder or breast height, 4.5 ft up from the ground. See pictures. My September 2015 measurement was 17 + 1/16 inch.
