Geocache Description:

The cache is NOT at the published co-ordinates !

Sule, possibly a derivative of the Myanmar word Su-way, means ‘meeting’. Indeed, it quite seems that all roads, and therefore life in Yangon, meet at Sule Pagoda.

Lt. Alexander Fraser of the Bengal Engineers, who created the present street layout of Yangon soon after the British occupation, used Sule Pagoda as the centre of their grid town planning when redesigning Yangon in the 1880s. And some locals will tell you that royalty and astrologers convened here long ago to determine the present-day site of Shwedagon Pagoda.

As Sule Pagoda is situated on a busy intersection, crossing the road to it can be tricky so exercise care. Sule Pagoda’s unique location, surrounded as it is by a few tourist attractions, means that it is a good starting point of a walk around the city centre. A short stroll away, admire the typical colonial-style buildings at the City Hall, the High Court and the Independence Monument.

Admission for foreigners at the date of this listing was U$3. Since you are already here, I advise you to pay a visit but this is not required to find the cache. The questions to answer can be researched remotely or within the compound.

Walking around the main stupa, you can inspect up close the eight Buddha images representing each day of the week (Wednesday represents two days) and stop to pay homage to your birthday Buddha (the day of the week on which you were born). Offerings of flowers, fruits and gold leaves can all be bought from the shops on the ground level.

- Possibly built during the time of the Buddha makes Sule Pagoda more than _____ years old? The first digit = A
- What is the name of the nat (spirit) of the Sule Pagoda? Letter value of the first letter (A=1, B=2 .. Z=26) = BC
- How many angles does the pagoda have in its unusual shape? = D
- How many stair entrances lead up to the pagoda from street level? = E
