軽井沢宿は、中山道六十九次のうち江戸から数えて十八番目の宿場です。
現在の長野県北佐久郡軽井沢町旧軽井沢のあたりです。
碓氷峠の西の入口にあたり、中山道で最も栄えた宿場でした。
最盛期には100軒近くの旅籠がありました。
明治後半外国人宣教師により避暑地として紹介されて以来、観光地や別荘地に変貌しかつての面影を残すものは少ないです。
軽井沢は、もともと「かるいさわ」という地名でしたが、英語などで発音しやすい「かるいざわ」と読むようになりました。

Karuisawa Post Town is the 19th post town from the Edo.
It is an area of current Nagano prefecture Kitasaku county Karuizawa town Kyu-Karuizawa.
Karuisawa Post Town was west entrance of the Usui Pass, and the post town that prospered most in Nakasendo Highway.
There was the inn nearly 100 in the golden age.
There are few things which change into a sightseeing spot and the villa ground, and leave an ex-feature since I was introduced by a foreign propagator in the latter half of the Meiji era as a summer resort.
Originally Karuizawa was the place name "Karuisawa", but came to read with "Karuizawa" which it was easy to pronounce in English.
The cache is established to a stone tablet of Basho Matsuo.
