Geocache Description:

Some call it the Turkey Trot Trail (part of the Shelton Lakes passive recreation area) Google maps calls it the Shelton Lakes Recreation Path. Nice clean white/ blue trail (at least 3 person wide) path safe for young wiggly kids. A great treasure, just barely inside the wooded area where you have to watch the ground for tree roots.

This is meant as an extra easy cache created for kids or any first time geocachers (with no tears for not finding it). As a family with 2 young boys packed with unfocused energy, we wanted to create a cache that was really easy to find, really kid friendly and had a nice treasure (please remember to bring one to leave in the treasure box). There are also Cache In/Trash Out bags to help collect litter while geocaching. It will help any parents get out for a nice walk, while keeping the kids on a mission (on the trail) .

Start out in the small parking area (with trailhead) across the street from Shelton intermediate school N 41° 18.953 W 073° 07.233 . A small bridge welcomes you to the path. Follow the path on the white/ blue trail.

You will eventually see a fork in the path, two boulders on your left and the thicker wooded area on your right. Just as you enter the wooded area (try not to let those roots grab your toes) a sad pine yelled TIMBER. GPS location N 41° 18.646 W 073° 07.293 . There you will find your treasure.

***If you have young children that you want to keep walking with you instead of running ahead you can add 2 additional stops along the path. After you park, and start on the white/ blue trail you will eventually see a wooden fence. With the fence on your left and the lake on your right have the kids count fence posts GPS location N 41° 18.863 W 073° 07.318 . On the 14th post (near a stump) please let the kids make their mark on the paper, return it and keep going down the path.

Follow the path until you get to the bridge. Mom and dad may need to rest while the kids inspect the metal brace for the bridge for any loose screws GPS location N 41° 18.721 W 073° 07.238 . There please let the kids make their mark on the paper, return it and keep going down the path.  You will see a fork in the path, two boulders on your left and the thicker wooded area on your right. Just as you enter the wooded area (try not to let those roots grab your toes) count 110 big steps (117 little) a sad pine yelled TIMBER GPS location N 41° 18.646 W 073° 07.293 . There you will find your treasure.
