Kings Wood, Trentham, is somewhere I've visited since I was a little girl, I used to regularly come up here with my dad who used to talk about the Seven Sisters and still calls it that today. It seems the history of who the seven sisters were or how the trees came to be known as this, has been lost and sadly the seven sisters no longer stand.
Kings Wood has seen many changes over the years, moreso very recently with the felling of a large amount of trees, and further work is expected. There are some magnificent old trees here, with various paths leading off, so if you have time, do have a wander around. At the time of placing the cache, we disturbed a deer who went thrashing through the ferns, we also saw several birds of prey.
Parking is in the layby on the A519, the cache is about a half a mile walk. Proceed across the motorway bridge, crossing the newly erected stile, and continue up the hill, taking the right hand path through the gate at the top and staying on the top path. Continue along until you reach a small clearing with several grand trees. GPS did bounce around a bit but I've tried to get co-ords as accurate as I can.
Unfortunately, the access to the cache isnt suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs due to the new stile, the path is very uneven and gravelly, the top path can get quite muddy with deep tracks.
Kings Wood is a site of special scientific interest and as such please be respectful of your surroundings. Placed with the kind permission of Trentham Leisure
