The name Bobby Helms may not ring any bells, but you most assuredly have heard some of his music. He is best known for his hit song "Jingle Bell Rock" which is still heard every Christmas season. "Jingle Bell Rock" was just one of three hits Helms had in 1957. The other two being "Fraulein" and "My Special Angel." They were number 1, 2, and 7 on the charts at the same time.
Helms was born in Bloomington, and doing a country music radio show by the time he was 9 years old. Despite his success in Nashville and a busy touring schedule, he lived in central Indiana for most of his life, and was living just outside Martinsville when he died in 1997. He is also a member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
