Geocache Description:

At the cords is a great little cave. If you follow the wee track you can go into it but watch your head.

Caves don’t start as caves; they form in rocks over millions of years! Most caves are formed in limestone, dolomite, gypsum, and marble – rocks that can be easily dissolved over time. The development of caves are called speleogenesis.

A cave begins to form when water seeps through cracks in the rock. Rainwater absorbs carbon dioxide in the ground and forms a weak acid called carbonic acid. This acidic water moves through the limestone towards the water table, dissolving the limestone and developing an underground channel. This channel is like an underground river. Water begins to fill every open crack in the rocks below the water table: When the water table drops, the upper passageways fill with air and the limestone dissolves quickly due to the large amount of carbonic acid in the cave.

The world's three longest known cave systems are: Mammoth Cave, Kentucky, USA, 651.8 km, Sistema Sac Actun/Sistema Dos Ojos, Mexico, 319 km, and Jewel Cave, South Dakota, USA, 267.6 km

To log this Earthcache you need to email/message the CO the answers to these questions -

1. What do you think is the height and width measurement of the entrance into the cave? Once in the cave how high do you think the roof is from the ground?

2. Describe what the rocks on the roof look like inside the cave and how you think they are made?

3.Is there any plants inside? If so how do you think they can stay growing and if not why do you think there are none? And what stops them from growing?

A photo would be great but not needed to log this cache.

Please DON'T post your answers online, even encrypted. Failure to comply with logging requirements, may result in your online log being deleted. You do NOT need to wait for a reply before logging. I will only reply if i feel a more in depth answer is needed.
