This airfield in the New Forest was named Holmsley South and was classified as a “major airfield” during World War II. There were 3 other airfields within the New Forest, and one at Hurn, which is the only remaining airfield, now known as Bournemouth Airport. Nowadays, a memorial can be found at the site of this airfield. Visible remains of the airstrip can be seen in the farmer’s field on the other side of the road, where livestock can be seen grazing.
