Geocache Description:

El Tablero is not only a town to the south of Gran Canaria. With more than 7,000 inhabitants, El Tablero preserves the history and customs of past. Afriendly people coming from more than 20 countries around the world, offering a multicultural environment prevailing integration and tolerance.

The past, the present and the future go hand in hand. On the one hand, every year are celebrated with great fervor and traditional festivals on the other hand, El Tablero has one of the most modern shopping centers in southern Gran Canaria. Undoubtedly, El Tablero is growing every year, but has not forgotten its roots.

This multicache was born in order to remember and preserve the history of El Tablero.

“To understand where we are going, it is essential not to forget where we came from”.

This multicache is a walk in the old pueblo of El Tablero. If you not have taken my regular caches here, you my passing some of them very close too, so get ready and prepared.

When I moved to this beautiful small city I came across some tiles with text and picture. They was mounted on buildings many places. I could not read spanish, but I wrote the history down and brought it home for translation. The stories were fantastic. I read about the baker, teacher, the doctor or the first councilor of the town and many more superinterresting places and persons. You will see a lot of them too.

Here is an example of what you is looking for

An example of a plate

An example of a plate

I would find out more and started to ask people. One day I finally find the person who had this fantastic project, 68 year old, Juan Carlos Vega Valerón.

Juan Carlos

And he had done it all by him selves. He wrote the poems, made the art of the tiles and got it burned by a local ceramist. One by one all over the city, paid by his own money.

With this multicache I will show you some fantastic historical memories of persons and places in El Tablero. Take your time and your camera with you during this walk.

You will also bypass many plates which is not into this multicache trail. Upload pictures of them bur please do NOT poste pictures of those which is into this trail.

At the NEW final stage, you will find a small backyard with lovely trees.

The system is as follow. On each correct plate you will find a year of birth and a year of the persons death. You will have to do some math with the last two digits in those years.

In the coordinate of North you will need the last two digits of born (A)

In the coordinate of West you will need the last two digits of the death (B)

I recommend parking in the south part of El Tablero (before you come to stage 1).

The first plate (stage 1) is at the following coordinate:  N27° 46.286' W015° 36.274'

Stage 1: ”Da. Josefa Vega Santana”

N27° 46.286' W015° 36.274'

For stage 2 take note of the two last digits in the year of birth (A) and the two last digits in the year of death (B)

Born : A Death: B

Stage 2: ”D. Pablo y D.Alejandro Vega Pestana”. We need only the numbers from Pablo

The coordinates is: N27° 46.2(A-9)' W015° 36.1(B+27)'

For stage 3 you will only take birth and death (two last digits) from Pablo

Born : A Death: B

Stage 3: ”Santa Misa”

Coordinates: N27° 46.2(A+81)' W015° 36.2(B+8)'

This is a historic place where there was found an altar. Take those to years at the top and use them for the next stage.

Start: A  Stop: B

Stage 4: Don Diego Santana Santana

N27° 46.3(A-4)' W015° 36.2(B+3)'

To the next stage, take the birth and death of Don Diego

Born : A Death: B

Stage 5: Navarro Melian

From stage 4 you will need born and death and the coordinates will be:

N27° 46.3(A-52)' W015° 36.3(B-20)'

From Da. Navarro Melian you take the two last digits in born (A) and the same from death year into stage 6.

Stage 6: Asuncion Pestana Viera

From stage 5 you have the birth and death of donna Melian

The coordinates are; N27° 46.2(A+43)' W015° 36.2(B-50)'

To the final stage, where the log is located you do exactly the same system. Take the last two digits in the year of birth, which is A and the two digits in the year of death, which is B, to the final coordinates.

You have to bring your own pen.

Final stage:

N27° 46.1(A+38)'   W015° 36.4(B-53)'
