Geocache Description:

Manganari is at the southernmost part of the island and there are asphalt roads leading there from both Chora and the port. The trip to that beach is truly enjoyable since the road goes across the interior of the island reaching almost its highest point at 600 meters.

Don´t hesitate to stop along the way to admire Mylopotas from above and to smell the true Cycladic aromas of thyme and oregano.

The rocks come in impressive shapes and near the end, visitors enjoy the view of the three successive beaches in Manganari. The landscape is surprisingly exotic. The beach has crystal white sand and there is no end to the beauty you enjoy as you swim.

Manganari beach is a Blue Flag beach, and the ideal spot if you want a full day in the sun in a relaxing and peaceful environment. It is also very suitable for families with children because of the shallow water.

The beach has changed very little over the years, and it is a lovely unspoilt beach. You may still even see flocks of goats on the sand from time to time if you're there at the right time of day. Manganari was also used as one of the locations for the movie "The Big Blue" in 1988.

Facilities:

There are specific sections of the beach for sunbeds and umbrellas, all of which are situated near the organised watersports. Manganari is a great spot to go windsurfing as it can be quite a windy beach.

There are a handful of Greek tavernas to enjoy fabulous fresh seafood and traditional Greek dishes.

How to get to Manganari Beach:

Manganari Beach is approximately 23km from the Chora in Ios Greece.

There are several ways to get to Manganari beach:

• By air conditioned bus. There are several daily departures from the Port, Chora or Mylopotas Beach.

• By boat. There are daily departures from the Port in the morning.

• By hire car / scooter / motorbike. Enjoy the breath-taking views on the way to this fabulous unspoilt beach. From high up on the road you can appreciate the great beauty and size of this stunning beach. The road is well marked by road signs.

You can park at the tavern Antonis, which recommend a visit.
