Geocache Description:

Event Information:

Start: Saturday 9th of January, 1pm.

End: Saturday 9th of Januray, 2pm

This event is designed to get people out into the high-country and to explore some stunningly beautiful terrain.

There are numerous ways to get to Mt Fainter, but there will be a party of experienced walkers leaving Pretty Valley Pondage at 9am from the Way Point marked as “Trailhead”. The walking party will walk along the Fainter Firetrail, past Tawonga Huts to the event location hopefully at around 1pm. Once the event is finished, at 2pm, the walking party will continue along the Fainter Firetrail to Spring Saddle and then follow Spring Saddle track out to Bogong Village (marked as the waypoint "Finish"). The estimated time for arrival at Bogong Village is 6pm. From here a car shuffle will be organized to get participants back to the car park and Pretty Valley.

If you choose not to join the walking party and make your own way in to the event, make sure that you come well prepared and are well-versed with hiking in the high country during summer months.

To join the walking party you will need to make sure that you have at least the following supplies….

  • Wind and waterproof jacket (yes the weather can turn nasty, even in January)
  • Food and plenty of water (we mean multiple liters!)
  • First aid kit and sunscreen
  • GPS device (well duh!)
  • Sturdy Footwear (nothing open-toed!)

It is expected that you will have a reasonable level of fitness as the total hike is expected to be just short of 30kms with some elevation changes.

It must also be noted that this event may be cancelled at the last minute. Reasons for this may include, but are not limited to…

  • Inclement bad weather (wind, rain, snow)
  • Extreme hot weather (temperatures above 35 degrees)
  • Severe, Extreme or Code Red Fire Danger Rating
  • Predictions of possibilities of any of the above.

If you intend on coming, please log your Will Attend. Any notifications regarding cancellations will be posted immediately as an announcement to this page. That way all teams who have logged a Will Attend will be notified of any possible changes straight away.
