So you're gonna wanna know how we found a spot as cool as the Fetterley Forest Conservation Area? Well, Claire did a summer internship at the SUCO Biological Field Station in Cooperstown, and when they'd had enough of hanging around the lab, they'd come out here to do Enviro-blitzes.
"Dad," she'd tell me, "You just have to see this place!" But you see, Dad never goes anywhere that doesn't have a Geocache, and...well..there were none at the Fetterely Forest Conservation Area. On the other hand...well, of course, Dad always does everything Claire says.
So I struggled with this for a while, and finally concluded that the only solution to this conflict was to come out to FFCA and place the cache there myself. And now all I can say is, "You just have to see this place!" And you don't even have to do an Enviro-blitz (although, of course, if you absolutely insist, Claire will be happy to explain all about the vernal ponds...)
Cache is an easy find after a level 0.6 mile hike (most kids should be able to do it) on the Blue Trail. You'll need to do a few feet of bushwhacking on your final approach. I've marked this cache as winter-friendly since it's above the snow line. But please note that if the snow's deep, it'll be a long trek in, and I'm not sure if the access road will be plowed. Hunting is not permitted in the Conservation Area.
