Witch Doctor Song is song title series #50. Wow, I can't believe the series is up to fifty! There are still plenty of songs to cover just waiting to be placed. Shouldn't be too hard to figure this out! We had taken the two granddaughters for their shots when I spotted this perfect location for a kid-friendly cache and novelty tune everyone seems to know.
The Witch Doctor song was first performed by Ross Bagdasarian,Sr. in 1958 and released by Liberty Records under his stage name, David Seville. The song peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The single was a major surprise hit on the chart, where it stayed for 2 weeks and became Seville's 1st number-one single. It also peaked #1 on the R & B chart and on the Cash Box chart as well. Sold over a million copies in the U.S. & Billboard ranked it as #4 song for 1958. This novelty tune was also recorded by Alvin & The Chipmunks, Sha Na Na, and Devo.
