Hsinchu Air Base is a military air base originally built during the Japanese Colonial Rule Period. This air field once served as the main base (There were 4 Kamikaze bases in Taiwan) for Kamikaze (神風特別攻撃隊) towards the end of World War II and the home of the Black Bats 34th Squadron (黑蝙蝠中隊) which was the name of a corps of CIA reconnaissance plane pilots and crew based in Taiwan during the Cold War.
Hsinchu Air Base received its IATA airport code as HSZ when it was opened for commercial flights in 1998, but only for 8 months before it ceased commercial operation. At the time, the passengers had to check in through a temporarily air terminal located on Zhongzheng Rd, 0.5 km east of the Hsinchu airport.
Hsinchu Air Base is currently the home base for all Mirage 2000 jet fighters in Taiwan. If you go to the far north end of the runway, there is a barbed wire fence section where you can see the jet fighters taking off and landing on the runway. Please note that the cache is not at the posted coordinates nor within the Air Base, but in public accessible open area, magnetic on the most right hand lane of a left turn.
