The Event
Date: Monday January 18, 2016
Time: 9:30AM-10AM meet-n-greet, 10AM-11AM optional tour
We will start gathering at 9:30AM around the posted coordinates outside Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Museum. Anyone who wishes to bring coffee, donuts, bagels, etc. is welcome to do so. At 9:45AM, the Gift Shop will begin signing up those who wish to participate in the tour. The tour will depart at 10AM and last approximately 1 hour. Those not participating in the tour are welcome to continue enjoying the public park. After the tour finishes you can visit the museum which is included in the tour price.
The Tour
The tour is approximately a 1/2 mile roundtrip walking on a sidewalk, plus climbing 35 steps up the hill and 105 steps to the top of the lighthouse. Your tour guide will tell you a great deal about local history during the tour. Children must be at least 4 ft tall to climb the lighthouse. Heels are prohibited and flip-flops are strongly discouraged. No backpacks, tripods, or selfie-sticks. Safety disclaimer: if you have vertigo, claustrophobia, a pregnancy, a heart condition, or similar then climbing a lighthouse may not be for you. You can go on the tour without making the climb. The tour is weather permitting.
For the event tour only the admission fee is discounted ($9 per person; $4 if 18 or younger). Tour will be provided by the CO who is proud to be the staff Historian. The socializing portion of the event is free.
When you log your Will Attend please note whether you plan to take the tour so I can have an approximate head count.
The Lighthouse
Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse was built in 1860 and remains an active lighthouse. The lighthouse and museum are part of the 120-acre Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area (JILONA) which has been used by all 5 branches of the US military and has evidence of human habitation going back 5000 years.
