Geocache Description:

The Long Neck Turtle is a totem of the Yorta Yorta people. They can be found in most permanent wetlands and streams and can live for up to fifty years.

Long Neck Turtles prey mostly on small fish, tadpoles, frogs and crayfish. The long neck is used like a snake to rapidly strike at passing prey.

Isolated populations risk significant losses by being stranded due to drought conditions. Foxes ravage their on lands nests. As part of aboriginal culture, totems are not permitted to be harmed or their habitat destroyed. This treatment of totems by Aboriginal communities is representative of the Indigenous way of caring for country.

As part of the river recovery program, an entry/exist for turtles has been made in the channel built to flood the Perricoota Forest forest. If you are lucky - you may spot one too. Please respect there existence and habitat and leave them undisturbed.

The Cache: A micro hidden in a manner to not disturb the environment and be flood proof. Please BYO pen.
