Geocache Description:

Smallish traditional cache in Jansen Park, easy stroll from car park off Morris Road

Jansen Park is situated on the south side of Hamilton City, in the suburb of Hillcrest between Morrinsville Road and Masters Avenue. The land
was acquired as a park in 1981 principally to satisfy the need for more sports fields in the city and in the Hillcrest area în particular. It was later named Jansen Park after the Mayor in office at the time, Sir Ross Jansen.

"This document is the first review of a management plan that became operative in mid 1985. Except for two small sections of Road Reserve which are to be reclassified the park has been classified as 'Recreation Reserve' under the Reserves Act 1977.
In the Second Review of the District Scheme the park is zoned ‘Recreation Community’, a new zoning which was recently upheld for this park by the Planning Tribunual. The policies for this zone should be read in conjunction with this Management Plan as most of the aspects they cover have not been repeated again. its Recreation Community zoning means that this park is intended for the recreational and social uses of the wider community."

The block was purchased by Council from the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation.  A broadcasting tower was once situated on the park but was removed prior to Council purchase in the 1970's.

Sports Activities: The principal function of the park is the provision of summer and winter sports fields and the associated facilities needed to support these. The concept plan shows the arrangement of four cricket ovals and five winter sports fields with sufficient room for a range of grades in different winter sports. An area has also been set aside as a separate practice area near the pavilion to reduce wear on the five main sports fields. Floodlighting for evening practice is proposed and practice wickets may also be constructed. In the foreseeable future the predominant winter use will be for soccer, and the predominant summer use will be cricket. At times, one off sporting activities that suit the park may be permitted such as the start of a cycling event or a secondary school cricket competition.
