How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Please come join the RATs (Roses Among Thorns), the Gainesville Area geocachers, as we celebrate Alachua County's FIRST EVER BIG DOG, Stejenwell, in his amazing achievement!  Steve got into the puppy chow bag 4 years ago and, after finishing it off, he exploded into the geocaching community, and many of us have never been the same since!

When:  11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (or whenever he runs away in embarrasment!)

Where:  At a popular local eating place (NO food purchase is required to attend!).

Who:  Anyone, especially if you have any good stories to share (and trust me, there are QUITE a few!).  Don't hold back!

Why:  Because any of us who know this team (yes, it is a team) have come to like and respect them, and appreciate the positive contribution they have made to the caching community in so many ways.

What:  Please bring trackables to trade or discover.

Afterwards, you will find that there are nearly 1000 caches in this area, most of them placed by the RATs (and probably ALL found by Stejenwell!), of varying types and placements.  Some of the nearby parks and preserves have great hiking trails.  There are many challenging puzzle caches here, some great earthcaches, and some fun and creative traditionals.
