Cachen er plassert i Kvithellhula som ligger ca. 6 km fra tettstedet Hasvik. Fra veien er det ca. 10 minutter å gå ned til hulen.

The casche is placed in Kvithellhula witch is a cave about 6km from Hasvik center. From the road is it approximately 10 minutes’ walk to the cave.
I denne hula bodde det 35 mennesker i 99 døgn krigsvinteren 1944/45 hvor de gjemte seg for Tyskerne. I løpet av denne tiden var kvinner og barn knapt nok utenfor hulen. Mennene tok seg noen turer ut for å skaffe mat og andre livsnødvendigheter og for å høre radio. I nærheten hadde de gjemt en liten båt så de kunne dra å Fiske .
Julen 1944 ble feiret inne i hula og julesangen ble sunget da som ellers mens de gikk rundt et kosteskaft med på-surrede eine- kvister. Vanskelig å forestille seg opplevelsen.Kvithellhula er ganske grunn og ligger utsatt til for vær og vind. Barna ble plassert helt innerst, og beskyttet av de voksne hvis sjøen skulle gå for høyt.
De 35 menneskene ble hentet av Britiske destroyere og bragt først til Murmansk og senere til Skottland vinteren 44/45.
Nesten hvert år under Sørøydagene arrangerer Historielaget konsert i Kvithellhula, og området er et populært utfartssted for å få med seg midnattssola og de lyse sommernetter.
Fra cachen til der en kan gå ned i hula er det ca 10 meter mot sør .Gå forsiktig det er både bratt, glatt og store stenblokker.

In this cave 35 people lived for 99 days during the winter 1944/45. They hid themselves from the Germans. During this time women and children was hardly outside the cave. The men went out now and then to fetch food and other necessities and listen to the radio. Nearby they had hidden a small boat so they could go fishing.
Christmas 1944 was spent in the cave and they song Christmas songs while they walked around a broomstick they had lashed juniper twigs around. It’s difficult to imaging their experiences and horror.
The cave is rather shallow and exposed to wind and weather. The children had to keep to the innermost area protected by the adults because of the weather and ocean waves that could be quite high. The 35 people were picked up by British destroyers and brought first to Murmansk and later to Scotland in the winter of 44/45.
Almost every year during Sørøydagene, Historielaget arranges consert in the cave; the picture is from one of the conserts held here.
The area is also popular to visit to enjoy the midnight sun in the light summer nights.
The cache is approximatly 10 meters from to the place where you can step down to Kvithellhula cave, southwards. Watch your step, it is steep, slippery and big rocks.
