Geocache Description:

This cache replaces our "Kootenay History Series: Nelson" mystery cache that was at this location for many years. Keeping the links active so that the answers were easily available was difficult so we have decided to hide a traditional cache at the final location and this time we will supply the answers.

1. Osner and Winslow Hall from Colville Washington were mining on Toad Mountain southwest of Nelson and found a copper-silver deposit which started the rush to Toad Mountain and the establishment of Nelson.

2. Nelson was named Salisbury as well Stanley before it was named Nelson (after the then lieutenant-governor of British Columbia, Hugh Nelson).

3. John "Truth" Houston was Nelson's First Mayor.

4. The city of Nelson was Incorporated in 1897.

5. Nelson's City Hall, constructed in 1902, has a picturesque texture of white marble from Kaslo as well as pink brick from Spokane Washington.

6. The cost to build Nelson's Court House in 1909 was $109,145.88.

7. The movie "Roxanne" was filmed in Nelson in 1987. Nelson represented a fictional ski resort town named Nelson, Washington.

8. The Nelson Firehall has been used continually since 1912.

9. When the original cache was published the local brewery had a beer called "face plant" that was only available in the winter months.

10. "Street Car 23" originally operate out of Nelson from 1925 - 1949.
