"Memento mori" essentially means to reflect on mortality, although it has also been less correctly translated as remember death". This is something I frequently do in this location, near the mausoleum where the earthly remains of my parents and older brother rest. While my parents lived long and full lives, my brother was tragically taken too early, at the age of 50, when he was just about to retire and really enjoy his life. In reflecting on this, the lesson I have taken is another latin term: carpe diem. Seize the day and don't put off doing the things you really want to do until tomorrow, because tomorrow may never come. YOLO.
