Though the true origins of the Christmas Pickle tradition are shrouded in mystery, it doesn't diminish the fact that it's just a plain old-fashioned good time. It celebrates the cleverness of the hide and the persistence of the seeker. It's about the anticipation of the find, finding little things to celebrate throughout the season and into the fresh new year, and reliving childhood's most precious gifts: curiosity and wonder.
So your first task is to find the pickle in a Christmas-like tree. It looks like a plain old pickle, hand-made from wood by my Dad. Bring a kid along to help you look, because we've hidden it well in a tree with soft, friendly needles. The pickle will have the coordinates for the final. There's parking close to the trail head. The trail is wide, flat, and peaceful; following the river as it flows north, guiding you to the final. This cache is winter friendly, but please watch your footing once we have snow cover. Also be assured that the final will not put you in danger. Hope you find a nice winter day to stroll and take the kids, or the dog, or both on a fun little walk. The final is also an ornament exchange-- please bring one and take one. We've placed a bunch of ours in there to start (not our treasured favorites I assure you) so you'll have a few to paw through. First to find, though, gets their own pickle ornament if they wish, to perpetuate the fun. Please keep the pickle in its position as you get the coordinates and know that you do not have to remove the final hide from its location to access the log. Other than that, good luck and Happy Holidays!
