Geocache Description:

Acquired by Pottawattamie County in 1991, Hitchcock Nature Center (HNC) currently consists of 1,268 acres located in the heart of the globally significant Loess Hills. The Loess Hills harbor some of the largest remaining prairie remnants in Iowa and provide refuge for plants and animals found nowhere else in the state. Hitchcock is open every day of the year for hiking, camping, picnicking, bird watching, snow sledding, star gazing, or simply enjoying nature.

This is One of the most difficult hikes within the park The Cache is located in the very South West corner of the park Find your way to the Westridge Trail follow it Around to the Hyland Trail. Awesome view of the Missouri River Valley and the City of Omaha really cool at night. This is a on-site puzzle (Mystery Cache)  placed with permission. find the birdhouse, Solve the puzzle, unlock the lock & sign the log. Understanding your hint is critical. Lots of room for small trade items/trackable's.  Sally and I love hiking, backpacking & snowshoeing  in this park. There are currently 10 miles of hiking trails. We especially like the  backcountry campsites, Three are on the ridges and two down in the Valleys. ($5.00 a night)  We spend a lot of time over here throughout the year, and have noticed it's a very clean Park, rarely do We see litter on the trails. However every now and then we do see some trash left in the backcountry  fire pit's  from  irresponsible People/Backpackers that try to burn their trash,Food &  Aluminum cans we always clean this up. A few times I forget to bring a small trash bag with us. So I have incorporated a small area within the bird house which holds small trash bags. (CITO) You do not need to solve the puzzle to retrieve a trash bag. If the bags need to be re-stocked please send me a note. Park Hours: 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Every day of the year
Park Admission: $2.00 per vehicle per day or $10.00 annual permit  which is good for all Pottawattamie county parks.
