Geocache Description:

The Quilt Block Series will be a series of 30 caches that are mostly on back roads in President Township.  Some of the roads are posted "No Winter Maintenance."  All of the hides should be quick finds and there are pull-offs close-by each cache.  There is not alot of traffic on these roads, but please be careful when caching with children.

MONKEY WRENCH

The Monkey wrench has been rumored to be a block included in the Underground Railroad quilts that help to direct slaves to freedom in the north.  This meaning of this block was to instruct slaves to gather tools for their upcoming journey.

Many people are now doubting the use of quilts and quilt blocks to direct the slaves north.  Especially in light of the many different names given to each block.  The monkey wrench tool was not thought to be a very common tool on plantations during the 1860's, so it's doubtful many slaves would even have been familiar with the tool.

It is a very common block used in a lot of quilts, especially sampler type quilts.  Money Wrench is one of the easier blocks to make and would be a great block for a beginning quilter to learn.
