PASSPORT TO EAST BAY PARKS: ANTHONY CHABOT Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Gitonyerhorse: This one has become unfindable due to the overgrowth of poison oak. Since I'm no longer in the area and can't maintain it, I'm archiving it. Hopefully, someone will hide another for this particular series.

Geocache Description:

Anthony Chabot Regional Park

Did you know that the East Bay Regional Parks District is the largest urban park system in the entire country? This geocache is part of the Passport to the East Bay Parks series.

There is one special geocache in each of the East Bay Regional Parks properties (except a few that don't allow geocaches.) At the time of this cache placement, the park district encompasses 199,000 acres. Please enjoy all the parks and trails, but please respect the Park rules.

Be sure to stamp your passport with the stamp provided in the geocache. Many of the Passport geocaches have blank passport booklets in the container. You can also download a Passport via Passport To The Parks
When you completely fill up your Passport, you can redeem it for a special prize. Of course, there is no cost for participating. For further information on the Passport series, see Passport To The Parks

Anthony Chabot is over 3,000 acres of scenic trails for hikers, dog walkers, cyclists and horseback riders. Best of all, the trails are open year round and are well maintained. Best parking for this cache is at the Clyde Woolridge Staging area, although there is very close parking closer to the cache. As always, watch out for ticks, snakes and poison oak. Best access to this cache is from Upper Goldenrod, although it is accessible from Lower Goldenrod.

Remember to stamp your passport! As of the day of placement, there are no passports in this cache, so please bring one with you.

Special Note about this cache: As with any cache placed near trails where horseback riding is allowed, be aware of any riders that may be approaching on the nearby trails, especially the trail below the cache. Horses are easily frightened by that which they can hear but not see, and they have excellent hearing. If you are close to the trail when horses approach, get into an open area where you can be seen and say, "Hello." This is especially important if you are above the riders. If you are not near an open area, try to remain still and quiet until the riders have passed by and you no longer hear the hoofbeats before moving. A frightened horse can injure its rider, so please, always be mindful of horses you meet or hear on the trails.
