Geocache Description:

Laughlin, NV.

Snowbirds are discovering Laughlin. Laughlin is a major snowbird destination that has a wealth of outdoor recreation, top-name entertainment, nine hotels with more than 10,000 rooms, and lots of RV parks in the area.

A comment that is often heard when talking about Laughlin, Nevada is "It’s nice to get away from the snow and enjoy 70-degree weather in December.” Laughlin, Nevada usually has over 300 days of sunshine each year. An average annual rainfall of 1.78 inches makes this region an arid climate.

Situated 89 miles south of Las Vegas off State Route 163, Laughlin thrives in the winter. Nestled along the Colorado River, the eye-catching combination of water and bright neon, with a backdrop of desert and jagged mountains provides unlimited visual wonder.

There’s always something to do. Enjoying the near-perfect sunny weather, visiting with new friends, playing and fishing on the river, helicopter rides, gambling casinos, checking out all the classic cars at the Riverside and great deals on meals, movies and more.

The Colorado River, Lake Mohave, Lake Havaus, and Lake Mead offer a wide spectrum of recreational activities. You can enjoy water skiing, jet skiing, fishing, as well as dinner cruises and scenic tours aboard paddlewheel steamship replicas and tour boats.

Many enjoy seeing the natural wonders of the surrounding Mohave Desert including the Christmas Tree Pass and Grapevine Canyon area about 10 miles west of Laughlin. This area is ideal for hiking, camping, photography and exploring. The canyon was named for the grape plants found in the area and boasts of a number of fascinating Indian petroglyphs that adorn the canyon's sheer cliff walls.

Laughlin is a playground ideal for both indoor and outdoor enthusiasts, and babyboomers really love Laughin. An estimated 7,000 of them enjoyed events such as the popular Polar Bear Swim, sock hop, bingo and slot tournaments, healthy-cooking demonstrations, and exercise classes.

Live entertainment is complemented by trade shows, car shows, wine tasting, karaoke, singles functions, a chili cook-off, and fashion shows.

Laughlin offers many of the amenities of a larger city but without the crowds. If you are a winter breaker snowbird, you owe it to yourself to come to Laughlin, Neveda.
