Geocache Description:

Coimetromania: An abnormal attraction and desire to visit cemeteries: There are some people who have coimetromanias that involve compulsions to examine various graves and other burial places whenever they have a chance.

Tour guide J*B here, our next stop on the MnSQuest brings us to an old Pioneer cemetery high up on a hill in Monticello. Big THANKS to theodellfamily aka Mama Sue for telling me about this cemetery and to my sister Chrissy for sending me the photo above letting us know that there is a name for our addiction of cemeteries! What a perfect cache name!

History -Helm Pioneer Cemetery is the smallest of the four cemeteries in Monticello. It is located across from the Monte Club Hill on County Road 118. It is a family/neighborhood cemetery, maintained by the Monticello Township. This small cemetery contains about 16 graves. The graves are those of early settlers' families who farmed and lived in and around the area of the cemetery.

The Monte Club Hill is one of the highest points in Wright County. The name Monticello is derived from the Italian word for “little mountain” which Thomas Jefferson named his home in Charlottesville, Virginia. There are terrific views of the city, not only in the day light, but especially at night. The Monte Club Hill access is closed at present, but a park will be replacing the dinner club that has since been demolished. The dinner club was known for miles around not only for its' great dining experience, but also for its’ fantastic views of the City of Monticello, the Mississippi River, as far reaching as Big Lake, three miles north across the River. The Monte Club Hill is adjacent to the Helms Pioneer Cemetery to the West across County Road 118. Watertower Park is adjacent to the hill to the east and is accessible for more great views and picnicking.

At Posted Coords you will see a very tall tombstone (the tallest I've seen so far, you can't miss it) with a Mason symbol on it. HAVE FUN J*B!
