Geocache Description:

Five Points was created when Columbia drained the swamp and diverted Rocky Branch Creek underground in 1915. The first business opened in 1919. Now the heart of Five Points buzzes daily with foot traffic as business professionals enjoy an open air lunch, artists paint scenes and sell their wares in unique galleries, young and old shop for the perfect outfit or special gift. All the while traffic continues to carry residents in and out of the city village to the University of South Carolina, downtown business district and to homes in the six surrounding neighborhoods. Five points is also home to Columbia's annual St. Patrick's day festival.

This cache will take you on a short tour of the fountains of the area. You can enjoy a nice walk with lots of shops and restaurants in-between. You are currently at The Harden Street Fountain. This pentagonal fountain was built in 1997 and has become an iconic landmark for the area. Every year the water turns green for St. Patrick's day. Nearby you will find a plaque that lists the 'Friends of Five Points'.
