PONTE POSTUMIO
Dopo l’alluvione del 1882 il percorso dell’Adige all’interno di Verona venne modificato: furono costruiti i muraglioni e vennero interrati alcuni rami secondari (l’Isolo).
Durante i lavori vennero fatte importanti scoperte archeologiche tra cui il rinvenimento nel 1891 di “numerosi blocchi di marmo i quali dal taglio, dalla lavorazione, dalla maniera in cui giacevano gli uni sugli altri dimostravano di aver appartenuto ad un ponte che sorgeva ivi nell’epoca romana”: erano indicati come i resti di un ponte che collegava il decumano massimo che all’interno della città coincideva con la via Postumia, da cui il nome del Ponte Postumio. Il ponte fu anche chiamato Emilio in quanto doveva collegare la via Emilia poiché alcuni autori negarono per molto tempo la via Postumia. Fu anche detto Rotto da quando crollò in parte probabilmente nel 589 e sino al suo crollo totale avvenuto nel 1097 o, secondo alcuni studiosi, con la piena del 1153. Fu infine detto Marmoreo in quanto appunto costruito interamente in pietra.
Alcune pietre furono adoperate nel 1662 per la costruzione del campanile di S. Anastasia; dal che si deduce che la scoperta dei resti del ponte erano avvenuti ben prima del 1891, ed infatti lo storico Onofrio Panvinio ne fa menzione intorno alla metà del 1500.
A futura memoria, nel parapetto del muraglione presso il Redentore fu posta una targa marmorea a ricordo della scoperta del 1891.
