Geocache Description:

There is a good view of some of the damage from the Pines fire in July of 2015  This is a small container with room for swag and please leave the pencil sharpener unless you are trading for a different one.

CONGRATS Vipercamp and friends on the FTF

The Pines fire in July of 2015 started around 9:30 Pm on a Friday night near HWY 2 and burned in a northerly direction over table mountain.  More than 300 people were evacuated from nearby campgrounds to Serrano High School in Phelan.  Around 200 acres burned before the fire was under control.  I could see the fire from my backyard and became concerned it would continue burning north towards the south west area of Pinon Hills.  I pulled my motorhome out of my garage and began to prepare for an emergency evacuation.  Thankfully due to the efforts of three waterdroping helecoptors that repeatly dropped water on the fire in the dark of night and the wind changing direction, the fire slowed down enough to be controled.  From GZ if you look south towards the Caltec Observatory the damage can be seen.  I have minimal computer knowledge and do not know how to add a "URL" image to this page, so I added an image instead.
