Geocache Description:

In Northern English and Scottish folklore, the first-foot, also known in Manx Gaelic as quaaltagh or qualtagh, is the first person to enter a home on New Year's Day and a bringer of good fortune for the coming year. As it shouldn't be a member of the household, we thought we should invite some geocachers to help out. So please join us at our home to help us to "Say Hello to 2016".

Hello to 2016

As bringing coins is one of several symbols of good luck, perhaps you would also like to bring any geocoins in your possession for discovery or exchange.

On doing a little research, we discovered that certain foods are traditionally consumed on New Year's Day in some countries.

Grapes
Grapes - in Spain, it has become a tradition to eat 12 grapes at midnight on New Year's Eve, one for each hour of the clock. We will be serving ours mainly (but not exclusively) in liquid form. They may well be accompanied by some cheese and biscuits.
Cooked Greens - the leaves apparently look like folded money. We will be giving this one a miss so please don't bring your left over Christmas sprouts, the Manx winters are windy enough.
Sprouts
Cakes
Cakes - now that's more like it. We love Christmas cake but are invariably too stuffed at Christmas to eat much. And fruit cake matures pretty well so there should be some available today. Round and ring - shaped items are favoured in some countries, so if anyone wants to bring a few doughnuts, round biscuits or any other circular offering other than sprouts, who are we to argue?

So please call in and join us at our home between 5 and 6pm on January 1st for some geoskeet, a smiley and of course a geocaching souvenir. We look forward to meeting you all!
