Geocache Description:

This is not your average geocache! This cache was placed with the Christmas spirit in mind, and it is LARGE so really not particularly camouflaged, but that's not the point. This cache is a place where families in need can find new and gently used gifts for their children, and families with plenty can pass on some goodwill to the next cacher.

Essentially it works like this: We have stocked the cache with new and gently used, clean items, in protective containers as necessary, that any finder may feel free to take. Many items are grouped together in large freezer bags - this is simply to protect from the elements, take and leave whatever you like. Most, if not all of the items are geared toward children, so that parents who are cachers, or cachers who know a family in need, can find something fun for the kiddos for Christmas/your chosen December celebration and get a smiley all at the same time. In order to keep the cache stocked, I'll be revisiting it often and ask that if you do not have a child in need in your life, you add your own little something to pass on to someone who does. It's a bit of a twist on the "take something, leave something" philosophy. If you need to take something, please take something. If you don't need to take something and are otherwise able, please leave something.

The cache is a large Rubbermaid tub hidden in some pretty thick woods (an effort to prevent muggling before Christmas). Given the size and lack of camouflage I realize that this is at high risk of being taken, but it is my hope that it will last at least until Christmas. In the event that remains in place by Christmas, it will remain in place for the foreseeable future as a place for people to both cache and exchange goodwill. Of course there will also be a log book for traditional smiley-grabbing - and no exchange of items is necessary to submit a 'found' log (feel free to take nothing, leave nothing, if you so desire). The cache itself is a Christmas gift to you, the cacher!

We would love to hear about your experience with this cache - who the special child is in your life that you're Christmas caching for, or what you picked out to leave for a child in need, and if you had a good time shopping or finding it. Several years ago my family's Christmas was saved by a group of semi-anonymous good samaritans and that is a kindness I will never forget. The goal of this one is simply to pay it forward - and of course a fun large cache for everyone to log - a win for everybody. Happy caching and happy holidays!
