2015 Victorian Geocaching Adventure Festival

The Inaugural Awards

VGAF is on! Victoria has a distinctive appeal, which encompasses gourmet food and wine, history, spectacular scenery and especially outdoor experiences. We want to honor those geocachers who left the beaten track and ventured out into the wild. Bring your picnic blankets, camping chairs and esky. Of course you don't have to nominate or vote for any caches, however we'd like to invite everyone to participate.

This year awards will be handed out in the following categories:

  • Outstanding Adventure Cache
It is listed as a T3 or higher and any of the following attributes are set: "significant hike", "long hike (+10km)", "difficult climbing", "may require wading", "may require swimming", "snowshoes", "cross country Skis", "climbing gear", "boat" or "scuba gear". Please provide a short paragraph why this cache should win.
  • Outstanding Rope Access Cache
It is listed as a T5 and the attribute "climbing gear" is set.
  • Outstanding Water Access Cache
It is listed as a T5 and the attributes "boat required" or "scuba gear" are set.
  • Outstanding Hiking Cache
The attributes "significant hike" or "long hike (+10km)" are set.
  • Captain Risky Award
It is listed as a T3 or higher and the attribute "dangerous area" is set. The dodgier, the better.
  • Best Adventure Log
There are no special requirements. It is all about the overall experience.
  • Best Snow Adventure Log
The log is about attempting a cache in winter with a closed snow cover.
  • Best Landscape Picture
The picture is showcasing the great landscapes of Victoria. It is on a log of a cache which would qualify for category 1-5.
  • Best Action Picture
The picture is showing a geocacher in action. It is on a log of a cache which would qualify for category 1-5.
  • Spirit of the Game - The Corroded Carabiner
A geocacher who placed or logged a cache in Victoria and showed great spirits and good sense of the adventure community.

If you want to sponsor any of these awards with prize, please get in touch with us.

Cheers :)

Geocaching Melbourne - Although we got Melbourne in our name, we’re not limited to the Melbournian area. Our mission is to bring the Victorian Geocaching community closer together and encourage relationships across the state. But why Geocaching Melbourne? The City of Melbourne is known all over the planet. If you mention Melbourne to a stranger they associate Australia, Kangaroos, Waves, Beaches and friendly Locals with it. That sounds pretty good to us!.
