Geocache Description:


 

Charles Byrne came to Kingwood with Colonel Fairfax in 1790. He built a log cabin on the south side of High Street around 1797. Mr Byrne was clerk of both courts in Preston County. He was born May 31, 1775 and died June 13, 1843. He is buried in the Maplewood Cemetary. At one time...Charles owned all the land where the cemetery is located and donated it to the town.

William Gay Brown (1800-1884) U.S. Representative from West Virginia, 2nd District, 1863-65.

Robert Edward Allen (1865-1951) U.S. Representative from West Virginia, 2nd District, 1923-25.

William Gay Brown, Jr. (1856-1916) U.S. Representative  from West Virginia, 2nd District, 1911-16.
