There are several different hiking routes one can take to the summit of Cook Peak. All of them are steep and rugged featuring fantastic views. The easiest way to get there is using an off highway vehicle on Cook Peak Road. Be advised that the poorly maintained dirt road is narrow, steep, and rocky. Should you choose this option the summit is a short distance from the road, and it would be a great place for a picnic.
At the summit you will locate the foundations of the old fire lookout that existed there. You will see concrete slabs as well as various historical debris. On a clear day the view of the Kern River Valley is expansive from this point. Please be sure to carefully hide the cache because muggles visit here regularly.
The cache is a small metal box, and it is filled with swag. Good Luck!
Congratulations to OFGA and A Way for the FTF.
