Geocache Description:

The Silver Beach Amusement Park that graced the shores of St. Joseph, Michigan from 1891-1971 meant something special to every one of its millions of patrons through the years -- regardless of age. To some the Silver Beach Amusement Park meant an afternoon of carnival rides, snacks, and games of chance and skill. To others it meant a family picnic, a swim in the big lake, or just a moonlight stroll along the boardwalk. Still others saw Silver Beach Amusement Park as a way of life. These were the people who so faithfully worked there, summer after summer, most of them for periods of twenty years or more. The workers needed no union, the management required no leases, and terms of business were generally settled with a friendly handshake. "The whole idea was to have fun," said one St. Joseph resident who worked at the Silver Beach Amusement Park. "Mr. Drake insisted on honesty from all of us, that's all, and we loved working there. He didn't want anyone cheated out of having a good time."

Silver Beach County Park is located in St. Joseph, Michigan at the mouth of the St. Joseph River. Silver Beach County Park features a clean, wide beach on Lake Michigan and public access to the South Pier. Of the Park's 2,450 feet of Lake Michigan frontage, 1,600 feet are dedicated for a public swimming area in the summer months. Silver Beach became a Berrien County Park in the early 1990's, and many improvements have been made over the years to make it a premier tourist destination in Southwest Michigan.

Facilities Open: May - September. The Park is open during the off-season, as well, but bathroom facilities are not available during the off-season.Park Hours: Gates open 5 a.m. to sunset, daily. No vehicle entry after dusk. Daily Entry Fee: $6/vehicle for Berrien County residents; $8/vehicle for non-residents. Purchase an Annual Entrance Permit for only $35.

Placing this cache on Christmas Eve 2015. Should be an easy grab in the off-season, difficulty will much be greater in warmer weather with the beach muggles. Cache is placed along the road to the beach, you do not need to enter the beach to grab the cache. If you are walking down from the bluff, you will walk right past it. Be discreet when grabbing or replacing the cache, so no muggles see you. Hopefully this cache can survive the busy summer months!! Bring your own pen. Happy caching!!

Congrats to saintvi & waldowalking for FTF!!
