Drents Dorp is een buurt in het stadsdeel Strijp in Eindhoven en behoort tot de wijk Halve Maan. Drents Dorp werd in de jaren twintig van de 20e eeuw gebouwd. Het was een wijk waar Philips de arbeiders huisvestte die uit Drenthe kwamen. De wijk herbergt, naast veel verwijzingen naar bomen (Eikenstraat, Wilgenstraat) ook veel straatnamen uit Gelderland. De gemeente wilde in die tijd de nieuwe buurten noemen naar gemeenten in Nederland. In de “Gelderse wijk” kwamen voornamelijk Drenten te wonen zodat de naam van de wijk Drents Dorp werd. Een op het oog vreemde straatnaam in de wijk is de Canadastraat, die echter vernoemd is naar de Canadese populier, in Noord-Brabant destijds veel gebruikt in de klompenindustrie en lokaal Kanidas genoemd.
Drents Dorp is a neighborhood in Strijp Eindhoven and belongs to the district Halve Maan. Drents Dorp was built in the twenties of the 20th century. It was an area where Philips housed the workers who came from Drenthe. The streets in the district are references to trees (Eikenstraat, Wilgenstraat) and to Gelderland (a dutch province). The municipality at that time wanted to name the new districts to municipalities in the Netherlands. In the "Gelderse district" mainly lived Drenthians so the name of the district was Drents Dorp. A seemingly strange street name in the district is the Canada Street, which is however named after the Canadian poplar, in Noord-Brabant at that time widely used in the clog industry and localy called Kanidas.
