Leap Day 2016 in New York City! Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

New Market Mallers: Thanks to everyone who attended! I was very happy with how my first indoor NYC event went and I hope to have more in the future.

There are still two TB's in the inventory as of today, but I know that some of our guests were in the midst of long holidays, so hopefully they will log them soon. In the meantime, if everyone could just check to see if they grabbed one of the ones still listed, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks again and I hope to see most of you again before 2-29-2020!!!

Geocache Description:

It only happens once every four years, so we should definitely celebrate with a geocaching event! After all, you only get one chance every four years to fill this date on the geo-calendar!

Leap Days are needed to keep our calendar in alignment with the Earth's revolutions around the Sun. It takes the Earth approximately 365.242199 days (a tropical year) to circle once around the Sun. If we didn't add a day on February 29 nearly every 4 years, we would lose almost six hours every year. After only 100 years, our calendar would be off by approximately 24 days in relation to the seasons.

We will meet up at the Bourbon Street Bar & Grille at 346 West 46th Street, between 8th and 9th Ave. from 5PM to 730PM. Our event will be upstairs in the patio section. The restaurant is conveniently located to numerous subway lines, including the 1, A, C, E, N, Q and R lines.

In addition, there will be a limited number of trackable geocoins available for purchase at this event. These coins are trackable at www.geocaching.com and were minted specifically for the New York City event!
