This cache is placed in honor of the Hoorns Cache Event 2016.

Kaap Hoorn :

Kaap Hoorn wordt beschouwd als het zuidelijkste punt van Zuid-Amerika. Kaap Hoorn ligt in Chili, op een eilandje voor de kust van Vuurland. De kaap is geheel kaal, en de enige bewoning is een kleine bemande post, bestaande uit een vuurtoren, een kapel, een woonhuis en een schuur.

Willem Corneliszoon Schouten noemde de kaap op 29 januari 1616 naar zijn geboorteplaats, de stad Hoorn in de huidige provincie Noord-Holland, toen hij samen met Jacob le Maire de kaap rondvoer. Er staat letterlijk in het scheepsjournaal: "twelck [dat is: de kaap] onse president ter eeren des stadts van Hoorn noemde Capo Hoorn".

Cape Horn is know as the southern point of South America. It is located in Chili, on the Hornos Island. There is no vegitation and the only settlement is a manned post, lighthouse a house and a shed.

Cape Horn was originally given the Dutch name Kaap Hoorn, in honor of the Dutch city of Hoorn. In a typical example of false cognates, the Hoorn became known in English as "Cape Horn", and in Spanish as "Cabo de Hornos" (which literally means "Cape of Ovens"), a typical example of a false friend. It is commonly known to English-speaking sailors as "The Horn". It was named by Willem Corneliszoon Schouten on the 29th of Januari 2016 when he rounded the cape.
